Healthcare > Wellness webinar by Badger Talks for Wellness Talks - Mindfulness, Stress and Social Connection
Wellness Talks - Mindfulness, Stress and Social Connection
In challenging times, stress and anxiety can become overwhelming, especially when combined with decreased social connection. Research on mindfulness, however, tells us that we already have the resources and fundamental capacities to transform the kind of toxic stress that we may be facing, and we can do so in part by developing a different relationship with the kinds of thoughts that produce negative stress. In this talk, we learn about how certain forms of stress arise from our thoughts, and how simple mindfulness practices can prove helpful. We will also examine the relationship between social connectivity and our ability to manage stress, and how the style of awareness cultivated through mindfulness practices can enhance our sense of social connection.

Technology > Lifescience webinar by Biotage for Unparalleled Peptide Library Production: Automating High-throughput Peptide Synthesis and Purification
Unparalleled Peptide Library Production: Automating High-throughput Peptide Synthesis and Purification
Discover a groundbreaking webinar delving into automated plate-based unparalleled peptide library production. Peptides and other beyond-rule-of-five compounds have become thoroughly entrenched within the medicinal chemist’s modality toolbox. Principally, this is motivated by their potential for antibody-like target affinity and specificity coupled with the potential for cell permeability. With the advent of unbiased screening technologies, incorporating both natural and non-natural amino acids, the propensity for pursuing a discovery project with these compounds has become more tractable. Once hits are selected from the primary screen, the chemist’s job truly begins. Automated parallel peptide synthesizers enable the preparation of hundreds to thousands of peptides simultaneously, further driving a peptide drug discovery campaign. However, solutions that address the onerous downstream and high-throughput workup requirements for those peptide libraries are limited. The featured speaker will present data demonstrating a disruptive approach to downstream handling of peptide libraries that replaces traditionally manual processes without compromising peptide integrity and product yield. All the while potentially improving purity before delivery to downstream biological assays. As technologies for unbiased peptide library screening incorporating both natural and non-natural amino acids have evolved, the appetite for large and synthetic peptide libraries has increased. Therefore, demanding changes to the traditional workflow to avoid significant productivity bottlenecks. New technologies must consider fundamental standards from the established methodologies before widespread acceptance can be achieved. Join this webinar to gain insight into the uncompromising criteria and understand how those demands are addressed in this newly proposed peptide library workflow.

Environment webinar by Reef Resilience for Preparing, monitoring, and responding to coral bleaching in the Western Indian Ocean
Preparing, monitoring, and responding to coral bleaching in the Western Indian Ocean
Over the past three years, coral reefs have experienced a temporary refuge in the La Niña phase. However, the tide is turning as we face an unfolding El Niño event, ushering in warmer conditions that pose a renewed threat to these fragile ecosystems. During this webinar, experts from CORDIO East Africa will share information about the current El Niño transition and its potential consequences, particularly the increased risk of coral bleaching during the warm summer months of January to June 2024 in the Western Indian Ocean. They will share specific tools, resources, and adaptive strategies tailored to coral bleaching response efforts in the region. We will also hear updates on regional projects, and discuss methods and timing for bleaching monitoring to aid in collaborative efforts on the ground. The webinar will last for 90 minutes and the presentations will be followed by an open question-and-answer session and group discussion. A recording of the webinar will be available on reefresilience.org.
