Decisions that Matter: 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth in Ontario's Child Welfare
The experiences of the 2SLGBTQIA+ children and youth involved with Ontario’s child welfare system remain fairly invisible and there are limited clinical approaches designed to strengthen the skills of social workers and those providing care. This presentation, in partnership with OACAS, will: (1) Review the existing literature on 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in child welfare (2) Outline an emerging decision framework for clinical decision making to support 2SLGBTQIA+ children & youth involved with child welfare (3) Provide specific strategies for affirming social work practice with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and their caregivers. This Webinar is FREE for everyone. This Employment Ontario project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. When ASL interpretation is required, please indicate the preference in the registration form. The incorporation of ASL interpreters will depend on availability. In honour of National Housing Day on November 22nd, the Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) is hosting a webinar, “Accessing Housing Data in Rural Ontario." Currently, there is a shortage of proper housing data in rural Ontario. The lack of adequate data is a barrier to the planning and construction of more social and affordable housing in rural communities. During this webinar, you will hear from ROI’s Senior Data Analyst, Danielle Letang and RHIS Data Analyst & Trainer, Charlotte Craig, as they share online housing data resources such as ROI’s Rural Ontario Facts Housing Dashboard and Factsheet, and the Rural Housing Information System (RHIS), a centralized data tool developed to fill the housing information gap. These resources can be used to support municipalities, developers, and homebuilders in the planning and development of affordable housing in their communities. After the presentations, there will be a Q&A session from the audience.

AsIAm is delighted to host an online workshop series as a Grant-Funded member with the Disability Participation and Consultation Network. These workshops focus on the topic of self-advocacy and advocating your rights within the Autistic community and using effectively engaging with your community and with policymakers as a tool for advocating for your rights. These are four sessions which will cover the same content. Our fourth and final session for 2023 will take place on Thursday 16th November from 7:00pm - 8:30pm, online over Zoom. These workshops will be led by Dr. Vivian Rath and Dr. Mary Quirke and will cover: An introduction to advocacy, activism and lobbying and how they work How tools such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities can support you or your loved one to advocate for your rights How to organise campaigns How to identify and include like-minded people and organisations in campaigns Engaging with policymakers and Looking after yourself when taking part in campaigns Registration for these workshops is free. More people are recreating outdoors than ever before. Biodiversity is under threat. Habitat loss continues. And climate change poses an existential threat. As highlighted in the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC’s new Stewardship Inspiration Guide, outdoor recreation groups can play an important role in repairing, enhancing and protecting the province’s outdoor spaces. But for volunteer and not-for-profit organizations carrying out a meaningful and impactful project can be daunting. In a virtual discussion hosted by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC, a panel of experts will show that stewardship is doable for any group. The webinar will define stewardship, show the value of projects for the public and the people doing the good work, help groups identify projects that fit with their expertise and highlight the support and funding that’s out there.
