Architecture webinar by PingCAP for How TiDB’s Architecture Supports Scale and Reliability
How TiDB’s Architecture Supports Scale and Reliability
To meet the demands of modern applications, relational databases need a radically new architecture — one designed from the ground up to handle voluminous data and transaction loads, resist different types of failure and function seamlessly during times of peak demand without manual intervention or patchwork scaling strategies. TiDB is a prime example of this new style of database architecture. As an open-source distributed SQL database, it’s designed for the most demanding applications, scaling out to handle data volumes up to a petabyte in size. Join Alex Feinberg, Software Engineer at PingCAP, as he provides expert insights into the architectural features that give TiDB its scalability and reliability, including: TiDB’s design fundamentals, How the Raft consensus algorithm serves as an essential cornerstone for replication, How distributed transactions maintain ACID properties, How TiDB’s native support for high availability minimizes downtime for critical applications and services, TiDB’s wide range of tools and features for disaster recovery

Industry webinar by Monarch Gardens for Using Plant Sociability in Garden Design
Using Plant Sociability in Garden Design
Plant tags can't take you very far -- not if your goal is a climate resilient, low management, wildlife garden full of myriad ecosystem services. In this presentation we will explore in depth the nuances of researching a plant's sociability or behavior as the key metric in natural garden design. Namely, how allowing a plant to fully express itself through reproduction, and matching it to other plants within a larger community, can create a more holistic landscape best suited to the local site conditions and management goals. Please note this will be a live-format webinar followed by a healthy Q&A period. A recording will be made available to all registrants for two weeks after the event. This webinar is hosted by Benjamin Vogt, owner of the design firm Monarch Gardens LLC and author of the best-selling Prairie Up: An Introduction to Natural Garden Design.

Energy webinar by American Chemical Society for Frontier Fridays: Sorbent-based Direct Air Capture of CO₂ at Scale
Frontier Fridays: Sorbent-based Direct Air Capture of CO₂ at Scale
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), direct air capture (DAC) is currently operating at just 18 plants worldwide and only collecting 0.01 million metric tons of CO₂ combined per year. To stay on track to meet IEA 2050 net zero goals and limit global warming to 1.5˚C, DAC will need to scale up to capture 60 million metric tons per year worldwide by 2030 alone. So, limiting factors, including cost, materials, thermal and fluid management, process engineering and advanced manufacturing need to be addressed quickly!
