Advanced AAV Processing and Potency through Characterisation of Capsid and Payload Heterogeneity
Enhancing adeno-associated virus (AAV) viral vector quality can significantly impact product efficacy and is essential to ensure patient safety. We invite you to join our team of experts for a deep dive into our AAV viral vector development expertise and showcase our recent breakthroughs. In this webinar, our speakers will delve into how the characterisation of the contents and surface of AAV capsids has helped identify factors influencing charge heterogeneity, and, consequently, the potency of AAV products:We will first present how VP1 deamidation, which has been associated with a decrease in potency, is also connected to hydrophobicityWe will investigate how production time within the bioreactor and AAV location inside or outside the cell affects capsid post-translational modifications and surface chargeWe will finally demonstrate the importance of reducing and controlling the level of intermediate (partially full) and empty capsids, which can impact product efficacy and have potential implications for patient safetyAfter the webinar, we will host a live Q&A session, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask questions directly to the presenters. Healthcare webinar by InsideScientific for Genetic and Hormonal Components of Sex Differences in Alzheimer’s Disease
Genetic and Hormonal Components of Sex Differences in Alzheimer’s Disease
In this webinar, Dr. Buckley presents the sex differences in dementia, focusing on diagnosis, tauopathy, and implications for clinical trials. This presentation highlights the state of play in the literature with regard to sex differences in prevalence and incidence rates of dementia. Dr. Buckley touches upon the well characterized issue of women being underdiagnosed with dementia due to the fact that they perform much better than men on many neuropsychological tests. She presents her work that has shown consistently, and across many independent cohorts, that women show elevated levels of tauopathy in the brain relative to men. After demonstrating these sex differences in these clinical AD-related outcomes, she turns to the question of whether they might be driven by sex steroid hormones or the X chromosome. She ends the talk by touching upon the reasons why we care about sex differences, particularly from a clinical trials perspective. In addition, she presents her working framework for where she thinks the field stands and what gaps remain in the literature.Key Topics Include:The extent to which sex differences exist in Alzheimer’s disease riskHow sex steroid hormones and the X chromosome play a role in moderating this riskUnderstand the importance of sex disaggregating findings, both in observational research and also in clinical trialsPresenter: Rachel Buckley, PhD - Associate Professor, Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Research webinar by ExChange Wales for The Evaluation of the Basic Income for Care Leavers in Wales – Findings from Year 1
The Evaluation of the Basic Income for Care Leavers in Wales – Findings from Year 1
The Basic Income for Care Leavers in Wales pilot, launched in July 2022, is unique in several ways. No other basic income scheme has given regular payments as large as those received by young people involved in the pilot, nor have other basic income schemes been open to a national cohort of care leavers from the age of 18 for two years of payments. The pilot is being evaluated by a team led by researchers at CASCADE, Cardiff University and the evaluation is now in its second year. This session is based on the first annual report from the study, which includes early findings. We will describe the group of young people receiving the basic income, present a picture of how the scheme is intended to work, and discuss perceptions and experiences of professionals involved with the scheme.Presenter: David Westlake, Co-Investigator, CASCADE at Cardiff University.Further information about the programme can be found on the CASCADE website: https://cascadewales.org/research/the-welsh-basic-income-evaluation/
