The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and CALSTART are pleased to announce the Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) will begin accepting voucher applications on August 13 at 9 a.m. Pacific.CARB used public input to improve the CORE Implementation Manual (IM), which includes updates on new requirements, guideline modifications, voucher amounts, and detailed information on eligible equipment categories. These updates ensure stakeholders understand the requirements and procedures for participating in CORE. Join us as we review the new IM to prepare for the FY 23-24 funding segment.

The atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has now surpassed 420 parts per million, underscoring an alarming milestone in the human-induced warming of our planet. Last year, Earth’s average temperature was 1.48 degrees Celsius hotter than the pre-industrial average. To effectively address the climate crisis and avert catastrophic consequences, merely reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is not enough. The imperative extends beyond achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century; we must strive for a transition to net-negative emissions. This needs the integration of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies as a fundamental aspect of our climate mitigation efforts.To address this issue, widespread implementation of CDR technologies is required. Among the foremost CDR methodologies is Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS). This technique involves capturing carbon dioxide during the conversion of biomass into heat, electricity, or fuels, subsequently sequestering it in geological formations. Using a digital thread connecting various engineering tools to SysML, we’ll demonstrate how to evaluate many design variables, including orbital altitude and sensor capability. In its Net Zero Emissions scenario, the International Energy Agency sees global hydrogen demand increasing six-fold by 2050. Since it’s only by-product when used to produce energy is water, hydrogen is considered an important tool to help decarbonize ‘hard-to-abate’ sectors.
