Bringing Energy Efficiency to Underserved Households: Examples to Emulate
Energy efficiency can produce numerous economic, health, and environmental benefits, but most utility and third-party programs do not adequately serve the households that would stand to gain the most, such as renters and low-income households. Join us to learn about a new ACEEE toolkit highlighting best practices for increasing program participation among underserved residential customers. We will discuss strategies for programs to better reach all underserved households as well as specific strategies for reaching renters, income-eligible households, and rural households. Attendees will also hear from guest speakers who have successfully incorporated many of the strategies into their programs.

Industry > Energy webinar by UKERC for Mapping Participation for Democratic Innovations: An experiment in evaluating a citizens’ panel on home energy decarbonisation
Mapping Participation for Democratic Innovations: An experiment in evaluating a citizens’ panel on home energy decarbonisation
Through a series of collaborative experiments with partners, the UK Energy Research Centre’s (UKERC) Public Engagement Observatory is actively exploring how new approaches to mapping diverse forms of public engagement across systems can make a difference in practice to energy and climate-related decisions, innovations and new forms of participation. In this webinar, the Observatory team will present the findings of one such experiment that explored how the Observatory’s approach might contribute to a Citizens’ Panel on Home Energy Decarbonisation. They will then consider implications for future research and practice of deliberation, citizens’ assemblies and other forms of participation. This will be followed by a panel discussion involving reflections from the organisers (the Climate Citizens project and the Climate Change Committee) and facilitators (Shared Future) of this specific deliberative process, before opening up to wider audience questions and answers. Webinar organised by the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). Find out more about the UKERC Public Engagement Observatory: https://ukerc.ac.uk/research/observatory/

Industry > Energy webinar by Global Alliance for the Future of Food for Power Shift: Why we need to wean our industrial food systems off fossil fuels (Option 1)
Power Shift: Why we need to wean our industrial food systems off fossil fuels (Option 1)
Our modern industrialized food system is highly energy intensive. For example, fossil fuels are used in pesticides and synthetic fertilizer production and application, as well as for plastics throughout the value chain (including food packaging). Transportation, refrigeration, industrial and home cooking, and food waste also consume vast amounts of energy. As fossil fuel companies entrench their influence, governments worldwide must rapidly shift to sustainable practices like agroecology, regenerative agriculture, and local value chains. Hosting COP28, the United Arab Emirates, a major oil producer, signals a positive step, but it must not divert attention from the pressing need to phase out fossil fuels to avert climate catastrophe. During this webinar we will dive deep into our newest study titled “Power Shift: Why we need to wean our food systems off fossil fuels” and the accompanying discussion paper, "Toward fossil fuel-free food: Why greater collaboration between food and energy systems players is key." These reports explore the intersection of food and energy systems and their profound implications. We will present the key findings and also offer insightful commentary on their relevance to the critical discussions at COP28.
