Building a High-Performing IP Program Around Real-Time, Intraoperative Imaging
While the advent of radial endobronchial ultrasound (r-EBUS), electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB), and robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (RAB) have collectively contributed to raising the diagnostic success rate of transbronchial lung nodule biopsy, diagnostic yields from this approach still rarely exceed 70% due to CT-to-body divergence and the inability to visually confirm tool-in-lesion during biopsy among other challenges. Only with the addition of real-time, intraoperative imaging such as cone-beam CT (CBCT) or LungVision™ by Body Vision Medical into the pulmonology armamentarium have diagnostic yields begun to approach the 90% that interventional radiologists have been able to achieve with CT-guided transthoracic needle aspiration (TTNA). Hear from colleagues how they were able to justify to their institutions the investment in real-time imaging and their respective experiences incorporating real-time imaging into their practice.
