The way electricity is produced, distributed and consumed in emerging markets and rural areas is evolving.Digital technologies are now an integral part of sustainable distributed renewable energy (DRE) business models with applications ranging from demand mapping over the optimisation of the integration of renewables in electricity systems and improvements in the reliability of grids to consumer payment models. In emerging markets, new high-quality and modular technologies, remote monitoring, control software and systems, smart meters, AI, as well as platforms for real-time data collection, analysis and visualisation support sustainable energy stakeholders in providing affordable and clean energy access for all.As the demand for clean and renewable energy sources grows, the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) focuses on fostering and promoting innovation and efficiency of its members in the DRE sector.
