Emerging Data and Work Zone Safety Applications
This webinar will focus on the latest advancements in work zone safety, including the use of emerging data and innovative applications.Emerging datasets, such as those provided by CVs, crowdsourced data, probe data, and image analytics, have the potential to be effective surrogate measures for safety that can be used more proactively to identify safety issues within a work zone. This session will highlight three case studies across Arizona, Iowa, and Virginia, showcasing the potential of connected vehicle data and other emerging datasets to enhance work zone safety. As with any emerging data source, it can be difficult for practitioners to understand how to use the data that align with traditional data collection practices. This webinar will summarize a wide range of use cases evaluated as part of the case studies including monitoring speed limit compliance, enhancement and measures of effectiveness for transportation management plans, distracted driving in work zones and historical safety risks.Speakers: Skylar Knickerbocker, Iowa State UniversityAhmed Albugahdadi, Iowa State UniversityMike Fontaine, Virginia DOTDan Sprengeler, Iowa DOTWang Zhang, Maricopa Association of Governments
